Typhoon Xangsane caused severe damage to northeastern Taiwan. That night, Singapore Airlines Flight 006 crashed at Chiang Kai-shek International Airport (now Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport). Tzu Chi volunteers from all over Taiwan mobilized to provide emergency relief and comfort to the survivors.
